The roller-coaster stay of MSK Prasad-led national selection panel ended with BCCI president Sourav Ganguly on Sunday (December 1) confirming the development stating "you cannot go beyond your tenure".
The departure is in line with the old constitution followed by the new board regime that has a provision of a maximum of four-year term for the selection committee. The amended constitution had a maximum five-year term.
So, while Prasad and Gagan Khoda were appointed in 2015 with Sarandeep Singh and Devang Gandhi joining them the following year, none of them would continue in their position.
"Tenures are finished. You cannot go beyond tenure. They have done a good job," Ganguly said after the BCCI's 88th Annual General Meeting.
"We will fix a term for selectors and it is not right to appoint selectors every year."
The panel had its fair share of successes and failures but was mostly criticised for its limited international cricket experience.
