Muttiah Muralitharan set to be appointed as Governor of Sri Lanka's Northern province

Sri Lankan cricket legend Muttiah Muralitharan is likely to be appointed as Governor of Sri Lanka's Northern Province by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, reported by The Daily Mirror.

The presidential secretariat sources on Wednesday, November 27, revealed the legendary spinner was personally invited by President Rajapaksa to accept the post of the Governor of the Northern Province of the country.

It is being said that Muralitharan is among three new Governors set to be appointed by the new government of Sri Lankan President, who took over earlier this month.

He has also invited Anuradha Yahampath and former Minister Tissa Vitharana to take charge as the Governor of the Eastern Province and the North Central Province respectively. Yahampath is Chairperson of the Nationalist Entrepreneurs Association and a Director of a reputed garment export company, while Vitharana is also the leader of the Lanka Sama Samaja Party.

The former minister was also the Chairman of the Medical Research Institute for a long period and currently is a specialist doctor on viral diseases as well.
