Cricket Australia on Wednesday (November 27) confirmed the appointment of veteran cricketer George Bailey as part of the national selection panel at the conclusion of the ongoing domestic season.

The 37-year-old replaces former captain Greg Chappell, who retired from his Cricket Australia roles as selector and national talent manager earlier this year.

Bailey will bid adieu to his career for Tasmania and Hobart Hurricanes in the BBL in February and then initially serve as a "National Teams advisor" for Cricket Australia, working closely with chief selector Trevor Hohns and head coach Justin Langer before joining them officially in the selector's capacity.

"I am passionate about the long-term success of the Australian cricket team and advancing the cause of Australian cricket in general," Bailey, who played 5 Tests, 90 ODIs and 30 T20Is, said in a media release.

"I’m confident I can add value to the selection process and that my experience will be complementary to that of Trevor and Justin. I am really excited to be joining them in the coming months."

Bailey is expected to bring expertise on board that would help Australia win the next year's T20 World Cup at home.
