Cape Town Blitz hosted Jozi Stars in the 6th match of Mzansi Super League (MSL) 2019 at Newlands on Thursday (November 15).

Sent into bat first, Blitz posted 183/6 in 20 overs with contributions from Liam Livingstone (65 off 41 balls) and skipper Quinton de Kock (41 off 21 balls). Wahab Riaz also played a valuable cameo of 13-ball 29*.

Gerald Coetzee was the pick of the bowlers for Stars, claiming 2 for 42 in his stipulated four overs.

Defending the total, Cape Town bowlers didn’t allow any substantial partnership to flourish as they kept picking wickets in quick succession. Sisanda Magala (3/17) and Anrich Nortje (2/18) were the chief destroyers with the ball.

It was a disappointing batting performance from Jozi Stars as none of the batsmen except for captain Temba Bavuma (62 off 42 balls) managed to cross the 20-run mark.

Wahab (1/13), Dale Steyn (1/33), George Linde (1/18) and Gregory Mahlokwana (1/27) also claimed wicket apiece as Blitz eventually bundled out Stars for 126 in 16.2 overs, securing a comprehensive 57-run victory.

Brief Scores:

Cape Town Blitz - 183/6 in 20 overs (Liam Livingstone 65; Gerald Coetzee 2/42) defeated Jozi Stars - 126/10 in 16.2 overs (Temba Bavuma 62; Sisanda Magala 3/17) by 57 runs.
