Steve Smith was left “surprised” when he was called to receive the Player-of-the-Series award after Australia’s thumping 10-wicket victory over Pakistan in the third and final T20I at Perth on Friday (November 8).

Although Smith scored a match-winning 51-ball 80* in the second T20I, he was still the fourth highest run-scorer in this series. In fact, that was the only innings he got to play in three T20Is.

"It was nice to contribute in this series. I had only one bat in three games so I'm surprised to be up here,” Smith said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

The former Aussie skipper also credited the bowlers for their remarkable performances against Pakistan and in the preceding T20I series against Sri Lanka

"The bowlers did a terrific job throughout the series and the Sri Lanka series to be fair and the boys up the top have done an amazing job again tonight as well so it's been good all round," he added.

Meanwhile, the resounding win at Perth helped Australia to clinch the T20I series 2-0. The hosts were robbed a certain victory in the first game at Sydney due to rain, while they registered a convincing seven-wicket win in the Canberra T20I.

Australia and Pakistan will now feature in a two-match Test series, starting November 21 at the Gabba.
