Sourav Ganguly dismisses speculations over "split captaincy" in Indian cricket

India is currently led across all formats of the game by Virat Kohli.

Even if quietly, there have certainly been talks that India could try and see how the split captaincy might work out with Virat Kohli presumably remaining the Test captain but relinquishing the post for Rohit Sharma in ODIs and T20Is.

The advocators of the thought feel it would allow Kohli, also the team's best batsman across all formats, to manage his workload slightly better.

However, former India captain and the newly elected BCCI president Sourav Ganguly told Hindustan Times: "I don’t think that is even required to be discussed now" having already deemed Kohli as the "most important man in Indian cricket"

Ganguly, being a longstanding flag-bearer of Day-Night pink-ball Test, made agree Bangladesh Cricket Board and skipper Kohli for the historic first in the country later this month at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

The 47-year-old said the yet evolving version of Test cricket could become a feature of annual Indian home seasons to come.

"We will try and play one every year in India," he said. "That is for sure. When India go on tour, we will talk to the board of the country we are visiting and see if we can feature in one."

There have been concerns raised whether India has enough T20I games scheduled prior to the next month's World Cup in Australia. Ganguly, though, said: "There isn’t any time to slot in more games; the calendar does not permit that. But I think we are playing enough T20 games anyway. Over and above these, you will also have the IPL in 2020."

Ganguly is there at the helm of affairs for the next ten months; he'll be approaching a colling off period then as per the new BCCI consitution.

"I have enormous belief in myself," he said. "You give me something and if it needs to be turned around, I think I will. You will only be respected if you take a difficult challenge head on."

"Give me responsibility and I will give it my best shot. Leave me alone and I might fall asleep."
