Former India batsman Yuvraj Singh has once again taken a dig at the Indian team management for their yo-yo fitness test eligibility enforcement.

While wishing the former India skipper Sourav Ganguly on becoming the BCCI president last week, Yuvraj had tweeted: “wish u were d president while d yoyo was in demand.”

Notably, the southpaw was left out of the Indian team in 2017 following the West Indies tour because he failed to attain the yo-yo test passing mark, never to play for the country again.

“Yes, I maintain that if Sourav would have been there, things would have been different. The yo-yo test (a brainchild of the Virat Kohli-Ravi Shastri regime) couldn’t have been an excuse if a player was performing to keep him out of reckoning,” Yuvraj said in an exclusive chat with Gulf News.

“In Sourav, we have a former cricketer and a very successful captain who understands the needs of the players. I consider him to be a visionary and hope he looks after the state of domestic cricket as well,” he added.

Yuvraj, who announced his retirement from international cricket in June this year, has been named Maratha Arabians’ Indian icon player at the T10 League in Abu Dhabi, slated to be held from November 15-24.

The left-hander is again expected back in the UAE in February 2020 for the Ultimate Kricket Challenge to take part in the unique concept of cage cricket.

“Playing in such leagues abroad is good fun, you meet the players — like me and Chris (Gayle) are here. I am, of course, looking to bowl at KP (Pietersen) in the Challenge here,” Yuvi said.

Asked about life post retirement, the 37-year-old said: “Life has been good and stress-free since the retirement. It’s almost after 20 years that you are not waking up to face the rigour and the pressure of performing for the country.”
