Former Australia all-rounder Andrew McDonald is in demand as a coach these days; he recently joined Rajasthan Royals as head coach for the next edition of the Indian Premier League, and has now been appointed assistant to head coach Justin Langer leading upto the T20 World Cup at home next year, Cricket Australia confirmed on Wednesday (October 30).

However, it remains unclear when McDonald could possibly begin as he indulges in talks with Cricket Australia over the details of his contract.

The 38-year-old also holds coaching contracts with Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League and Birmingham Phoenix in England's new competition The Hundred.

McDonald will definitely have to relinquish his BBL and Victoria duties as they would clash with the home summer but whether he continues in his IPL and The Hundred roles remains unclear.

Previously, assistant coaches have weighed in the possibility of not doing any other job throughout the year as a major roadblock for them.

Hence, Cricket Australia, could be flexible especially after Langer himself saying that the board needed to be "creative and agile" in order to find the right people around the country's set-up.

Actually, Australia long sought permanent replacements for assistants David Saker and Brad Haddin; the latter having opted not to renew his contract so he could spend more time with his family.

The national side had former captains Steve Waugh, Ricky Ponting, and currently, has veterans Ryan Harris and Michael Hussey in the role as assistants on an interim basis.
