Barbados Tridents skipper Jason Holder couldn't help but express his delight after his team's magnificent 27-run victory in the final of CPL 2019 against Guyana Amazon Warriors on Saturday (October 12) in Trinidad. 

Opting to bat first, Tridents posted a strong 171/6 on the board before defending it quite comfortably by restricting the Warriors to only 144/9. 

"We had the belief," Holder was quoted as saying after the match. "The coaching staff has been outstanding. I couldn't ask for anything else from my guys. Johnathan was outstanding. I see Simmons as a father, he has been great for the team."

While batsman Jonathan Carter and left-arm pacer Raymon Reifer were the stand-out performers on the night for Tridents, Holder lauded the overall team effort right throughout the competition. 

"The team is exceptional. Credit to everyone," he said. "It is hard to single out people. Harry Gurney was exceptional, JP Duminy was amazing and Nurse was brilliant too. We played better cricket on the day and we deserved to win. Thank you so much, everybody."

Carter was awarded the "Player-of-the-Match" for his valiant half-century that gave his team a fighting total after early jitters with the bat. "It is a very proud moment for me," he said. "I was waiting for this moment for a very very long time. I am very emotional today."

"When you have a friendly Jason as a captain who believes in you, things become easier. Jason and Simmons have backed me and gave me support."

Warriors captain Shoaib Malik was left disappointed as his team failed to replicate the outstanding form shown during the league phase in the final. 

"I would like to congratulate Barbados Tridents for playing amazing cricket especially in the later stages of the tournament," Malik said.  

"We missed the trick when King and Pooran were batting in the middle. We didn't rotate the strike enough. They finished the innings well because of Carter. We started our innings well but we couldn't carry on."
 
"I want to thank the crowd. Keep coming and supporting us. I would like to congratulate our team for playing good cricket throughout the tournament. I know you guys are disappointed but tomorrow will be a new day and will have new opportunity."

St Kitts & Nevis Patriots bowler Hayden Walsh received the "Player-of-the-tournament" award for picking 22 wickets in nine matches. 

"I have no words right now. I have been working for years and this is the time it all paid off for me," Walsh said.
