Barbados Tridents lifted the CPL 2019 title with a 27-run victory in the final against Guyana Amazon Warriors at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad on Saturday (October 12).

Deciding to bat first after winning the toss, the Tridents posted a very strong total of 171/6 in their allotted 20 overs with the bat. Openers Johnson Charles (39) and Alex Hales (28) got their team off to a fine start. However, the team's middle order collapsed badly.

Jonathan Carter then ensured Tridents remain part of the contest with a blistering half-century (50* off 27 balls) batting at No.7.

Imran Tahir (1/24), Ben Laughlin (1/28), Romario Shepherd (1/29) delivered miserly spells for the Warriors in which they picked up a wicket each as well.

In the run-chase, while opener Brandon King (43) got going from his end at the top, the rest of the Warriors batting line-up struggled quite badly when it mattered the most.

Only Nicholas Pooran (24) and Keemo Paul (25) went past the 20-run mark in the middle-order as the league-phase table-toppers reached as far as just 144/9 and succumbed to a chastening defeat in the summit-clash.

Raymon Reifer (4/24) was the stand-out performer with the ball for Tridents on the day where Harry Gurney (2/24) and Ashley Nurse (2/17) also contributed with fine spells and couple of wickets each.

Carter was awarded the "Player-of-the-Match" for a fine knock under pressure of a final.

Brief scores:

Barbados Tridents 171/6 in 20 overs (Jonathan Carter 50*; Imran Tahir 1/24) defeat Guyana Amazon Warriors 144/9 in 20 overs (Brandon King 43; Raymon Reifer 4/24) by 27 runs to win the CPL 2019 title.
