After a miserable T20 International series against Sri Lanka, Aaqib Javed, former Pakistan coach and fast bowling great, has lashed out at Misbah-ul-Haq and Sarfaraz Ahmed.

The 1992 World Cup-winning fast bowler called Sarfaraz a mere pawn who doesn't use his own head for decision making, doing only what he's told by the head coach. He also said that the current skipper has not his own personality.

Javed lashed out at Misbah, head coach and chief selector of Pakistan side as well, calling him a puppet of someone else, pointing at Pakistan Prime Minister and former captain Imran Khan.

Not only Aaqib, entire Pakistan was disappointed with Men in Green’s show in the three-match T20I series, as the tourists whitewashed the hosts despite coming with a second-string side for the series.

Following the series defeat, Misbah and Sarfaraz were highly criticized for recalling Umar Akmal and Ahmed Shehzad, as the two badly failed to deliver in the series.

As per Geo News, Javed told media: “Sri Lanka achieved a lot in this series despite sending their A team. Their captain led with a daring mindset, which trickled down in their players.”

Former international continued, “Meanwhile, just take a look at Sarfaraz. He adopts the approach of whatever coach there is. He is not a captain actually. He takes the field as a mere pawn and then asks every time ‘Misbah bhai what should I do now?’ If Sarfaraz were a [real] captain, he would never have accepted Umar Akmal and Ahmed Shehzad.”

On Misbah, he opined, “Someone else is pulling Misbah-ul-Haq’s strings. There is someone who is dictating to him. The kind of personality and mindset Misbah has, I cannot even think that the decision to play Umar Akmal and Ahmed Shehzad could be his.”

Recalling the two’s ouster from the national side when Misbah and current bowling coach Waqar Younis were captains and head coach respectively, Javed said: “Misbah and Waqar Younis, as the captain and head coach, had written letters regarding these players.”

He continued, “They wanted this duo to be kept away from the national fold then how come have they brought them back? I just cannot believe that the decision to recall them was theirs.”

Javed signed off by saying, “Imran Khan would bring new players and fight for them but he did not do that with players who have been tried and failed 10 times. If we keep on doing this then we’d never progress.”
