James Anderson to train at Manchester City's Etihad campus in bid to recover from injury

The veteran pacer was ruled out of the recently concluded Ashes series due to a calf injury.

England veteran pacer James Anderson who was ruled out of the recently concluded Ashes series due to a calf injury is turning to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City as he hopes to recover from injury in time for the South Africa tour in December, according to a report by the BBC.

Anderson and England's head of strength and conditioning Rob Ahmun met with City's head of sports science Sam Erith on Tuesday to discuss what one England and Wales Cricket Board insider described as "a collaboration".

"It is about a change of scene for Jimmy, but also a way of tapping into some of the best facilities and experts in the world," he said.

The 37-year-old has made it clear that he has no plans to retire at the moment and wants to play till the age of 40.

Anderson has 269 wickets in 194 ODIs at an average of 29.22 and just 18 wickets in 19 T20Is at 30.67.

But when it comes to red ball cricket the world class right-arm pacer who is also England’s leading wicket-taker has 575 scalps to his name in 149 Tests at a stunning average of 26.94 and an economy of 2.87.
