Ravi Shastri says it's MS Dhoni's call whether to return to the Indian team or not

Dhoni hasn't featured in any competitive cricket match since India's ouster from World Cup 2019.

India's senior cricketer MS Dhoni has not been around Indian cricket for a while now. He has stepped aside from the competitive cricket since India's exit from World Cup 2019.

There are still uncertainties over his future, and even the selectors have no idea if Dhoni would like to continue or not.

India's head coach Ravi Shastri on Wednesday made it clear that it's Dhoni who has to take the decision and the management will back him.

Team has tried out Rishabh Pant in place of Dhoni in white-ball cricket. "Whether he wants to come back, that's for him to decide. I have not met him after the World Cup. He has first to start playing and let's see how things go. I don't think he has started playing after the World Cup. If he is keen, he will definitely make the selectors know.

"He will go down as one of our greatest players, very, very high up the list," Ravi Shastri told The Hindu.

India picked Wriddhiman Saha over Rishabh Pant for the first Test against South Africa. It has raised a lot of questions on who is the first choice wicket-keeper.

"Saha was injured, and that was the reason Pant came into the Test side. Saha is the best 'keeper' in the world, and at home, where the bounce can be variable, his 'keeping is invaluable.

"Pant has scored Test hundreds in England and Australia, is talented, but he is still very young and has the time to improve his 'keeping'," Shastri said.
