After a bad run in the Ashes, Jonny Bairstow was dropped for New Zealand tour.

England wicketkeeper-batsman who was really good in World Cup 2019 could not take this into the red-ball cricket as he averaged less than 24 in the recently concluded Ashes series. Bairstow’s red-ball form has been deteriorated in the past 18 months which saw him getting axed from the Test side scheduled to tour New Zealand.

While talking to Sky Sports about missing out on the upcoming tour, Bairstow said, “It’s obviously disappointing not to be on the tour. But at the same time, it gives you a chance to have a training period. It’s quite rare you get that time to go away and work on your game.

I’m not the kind of person to rest on their laurels. It will be the case of dusting myself down, having a couple of weeks off, reflecting on the summer and then getting back to it,” he added.

When England hero Ben Stokes was asked about the 30-year-old, the all-rounder said that he believes that Bairstow will respond well to being dropped and reclaim his place in the side.

International sport is hard, this is the highest level,’ he said this week. ‘Jonny is a world-class player and he’s gone through a difficult time this summer. But the saying “form is temporary, the class is permanent” is definitely one Jonny needs to stick by. We have seen what he’s capable of doing,” Stokes said.

Former England skipper Andrew Strauss also backed the Yorkshire lad as he said, “Personally, I think Jonny could do with a break. We have seen with Jonny in the past that when he’s got a point to prove he comes back strong and I expect him to do that again.
