Sourav Ganguly unopposedly re-elected CAB President

Ganguly will stay on as president of the cricket association of Bengal till July 2020.

The Electoral Officer of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) on Thursday (September 26) announced that former India skipper Sourav Ganguly and the rest of the five-member office bearers panel he was leading have won uncontestedly and will remain in their positions amidst the board post its annual general meeting on Saturday.

The development means Ganguly will continue as CAB President till at least July 2020 before entering a ‘cooling-off period’ as per the newly adopted BCCI constitution.

The CAB will hold its 85th Annual General Meeting on September 28 as per the diktat from supreme court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA).  

"I, Electoral Officer of The Cricket Association of Bengal do hereby declare and certify that the following persons have stood uncontested to the following Posts," Susanta Ranjan Upadhaya said in a document released by CAB.

Ganguly first took over the presidential reigns following the demise of visionary administrator Jagmohan Dalmiya. The ex-southpaw had been a part of the working committee for three years before taking over as Joint Secretary in 2014. He'll enter the mandatory cooling-off period after completing six regular years as office bearer in July 2020. 

Also, Dalmiya’s son Avishek will become the Secretary from his Joint Secretary’s post while Debabrata Das will be lone Joint Secretary. Debashis Ganguly will become the Treasurer. 

All office bearers will take charge from this weekend, after the AGM.
