Former Indian Test cricketer Madhav Apte passes away at the age of 86

Apte took his last breath at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai.

Madhav Apte passed away aged 86

Former Indian batsman Madhav Apte passed away at the Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai on Sunday morning. The 86-year-old was part of Indian Test team in 1952-53 and played seven matches. He scored 542 runs at an average of 49.27.

The right-handed batsman featured in 67 first-class matches where he scored 3336 runs which included six tons and 16 half-centuries. 

Apte had started his career as a leg-spinner. Vinoo Mankad coached him during his college days. 

In 1989, he was elected to the office of the president of the Cricket Club of India and also served as the chief of Legend’s Club.
