Former India batsman Dinesh Mongia on Tuesday (September 17) announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. He was last seen on a cricket field in 2007, playing for Punjab, before being banned by the BCCI for joining the Indian Cricket League (ICL).

Mongia made his Punjab debut in 1995-96 and on the back of consistent performances in the domestic circuit, the left-hander received his maiden India call-up during the 2001 ODI series against Australia.

Mongia went on to represent the country in 57 ODIs, scoring 1230 runs at an average of 27.95 with one hundred and four fifties. He also played a solitary T20I for India but never featured in a Test.

Dinesh Mongia always remained a quality player in domestic cricket. The southpaw finished with 8028 first-class runs at an impressive average of 48.95 including 27 hundreds across 121 matches, while he aggregated 5535 List A runs at 35.25 including 10 tons in 198 games.

Mongia also played for English county clubs Lancashire and Leicestershire. He lost his touch to cricket after being banned by the BCCI for his association with the ICL. While most players banned by the Indian board were given a second chance, Mongia remained the lone cricketer who was kept out of the official circuit.

The cricketer is expected to take coaching assignments going ahead. He was made a state selector by the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) last season.
