Former England captain Michael Vaughan has called for the smart management of Stuart Broad and James Anderson, saying country's best fast bowlers should not be picked together in the playing XI.

The veteran pacemen have played key role in England’s success in the last decade, but now they are reaching the tail-end of their careers and Vaughan believes that England should manage them smartly.

Vaughan told BBC Sport, “I don’t think it’s right that both of them play now. It might be that Broad plays one series and Anderson plays one series. They are not going to like it, but they are at that stage of their careers where England are going to have to manage the combination very smartly.”

While Broad, who has 467 wickets to his name in Test cricket so far, finished the Ashes 2019 campaign as England’s most successful bowler with 23 wickets at an average of 26.65. On the other hand, Anderson (575 Test wickets) bowled only 4 overs in the five-match Test series before a calf injury ruled him out.

Meanwhile, Jofra Archer was impressive in the Ashes 2019, which ended in a draw 2-2 with 22 wickets in the four matches against Australia and England vice-captain Ben Stokes felt the young can help the Three Lion to regain the Ashes urn in Australia in 2020-21.

Noteworthy, England is scheduled to travel to New Zealand for five T20Is and two Test matches in late October.
