TNPL, KPL, Mumbai T20 League under investigation by BCCI’s Anti-Corruption Unit

TNPL, KPL, Mumbai T20 League under investigation by BCCI’s Anti-Corruption Unit

Tamil Nadu Cricket Association has also formed a committee to investigate the corruption allegations.

India's local T20 leagues have come under the scanner for corruption claims

In an unprecedented development, two other Indian local T20 competitions apart from the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) have come under the scanner for corruption claims.

BCCI’s Anti-Corruption Unit chief Ajit Singh on Monday (September 16) said that players featuring in Karnataka Premier League (KPL) and Mumbai T20 League have also reported approaches from suspicious, unknown people and probes are on.

“Any player who has been approached is supposed to report it to us. It’s part of his obligation and we do the investigation,” Singh quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

“Some players have been approached during the Karnataka Premier League and they have reported the matter. We are also enquiring into the approach made to a player in the Mumbai T20 league.

“From the last season onwards we have taken over the anti-corruption operations of the local T20 leagues.”

In the TNPL case, the ACU head ruled out the possibility of any international player being a suspect. Despite such negative news, he endorsed local T20 leagues, saying there are positives for young players from small towns as they offer them a platform to show their talent.

Meanwhile, TNPL governing council chairman, PS Raman, has issued a statement and cited that the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association has formed a committee to investigate the corruption allegations.

“Having received information of acts that would constitute, if accurate, offences under the regulatory framework of the TNPL, the TNCA has appointed a committee to enquire into the issue and submit a report and until the Committee has been afforded an opportunity to thoroughly examine the allegations and submit their report, the TNCA is unable to make any statements on the specifics of the allegations concerning teams, players or officials,” he said.
