The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday (September) accepted Dinesh Karthik’s “unconditional apology” for breaching a clause of his central contract by attending a Caribbean Premier League (CPL) match from a participating team’s dressing room.

The veteran India cricketer was seen in Trinbago Knight Riders dressing room during the team's opening CPL 2019 game against St Kitts & Nevis Patriots in Port of Spain.

“The BCCI has accepted Dinesh Karthik’s apology and the matter is now a closed chapter,” a Board official told PTI.

As per the central contract, Karthik, who has represented India in 26 Tests and 94 ODIs, should have taken permission from the BCCI before watching the match. His contract doesn’t allow him to be associated with any private league.

Karthik has been leading IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders for the last two seasons. No wonder, seeing him in the Trinbago dressing room prompted the BCCI to issue a show cause notice, asking why his central contract should not be cancelled.

Karthik, in his reply, submitted that he went to Port of Spain on KKR coach Brendon McCullum’s request and attended the match by sporting the TKR jersey on the New Zealander’s insistence.
