MS Dhoni's retirement speculations have been doing the rounds ever since India’s exit from World Cup in July. The veteran wicketkeeper recently missed the limited-overs series against West Indies to serve his paramilitary regiment, while he hasn’t been named in India’s T20I squad for the upcoming South Africa series at home.

Amid plenty of outrage over his immediate cricket future, India captain Virat Kohli on Thursday (September 12) posted a cryptic tweet on Dhoni which sparked the retirement rumours even more.

However, BCCI officials while speaking to India Today dismissed the rumours, saying they have no intimation over Dhoni's retirement.

India chief selector MSK Prasad also brushed aside the speculations, saying: "No update on MS Dhoni's retirement, the news is incorrect."

Dhoni had called time on his Test career back in December 2014 while he stepped down as India's limited-overs skipper in January 2017. He has since continued to serve Team India as a brilliant wicketkeeper but his circumspect batting approach has often received flak.

During the World Cup, Dhoni constantly faced the wrath of fans and cricket pundits for his slow strike-rate. He amassed 273 runs from 8 innings at the quadrennial event at an average of 45.50 and strike-rate of 87.78.
