Big Bash League (BBL) franchise Melbourne Stars are reportedly set to sign a deal with South African pace legend Dale Steyn.

As per a report published in The Age, the Stars are "in deep negotiations" with Steyn, who called time on his Test career last month.

While announcing his retirement from Test cricket, the 36-year-old Steyn had made it clear that he will be available to play white-ball cricket.

However, Steyn's availability for the Stars may be impacted by his wish to also feature in the cash-rich Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), which reportedly offers more salary than the BBL.

The upcoming edition of BBL will be played from December 17 to February 8, while BPL will run from December 5 until January 11.

The report also claims that Steyn is keen to join the Melbourne Stars for their final six games.

It is pertinent to mention here that Steyn is not part of South Africa's T20I squad that will take on India in a three-match series, starting September 15 in Dharamsala. His next international assignment could only be from February 2 when South Africa tackle England in a home ODI series.
