Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots (SNP) faced each other in the opening match of Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2019 at Queen's Park Oval on Wednesday (September 4).

Sent to into bat by SNP skipper Carlos Brathwaite, TKR posted 152/7 in 20 overs on the back of captain Kieron Pollard’s 32-ball 47 with 4 fours and 3 sixes. New Zealand all-rounder Jimmy Neesham and Windies wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin also contributed 33 runs each in 30 and 32 balls respectively.

For the Patriots, Sheldon Cottrell was the stand-out bowler, claiming 3 wickets by conceding just 13 runs in his 4 overs. Rayad Emrit also picked by three scalps by giving away 39 runs.

In reply, SNP scored 42 runs in the powerplay without losing a wicket. But the visitors failed to make the most of the good start, collapsing from 70/1 to 76 for 5 in the span of 16 deliveries.

Fabian Allen kept the Patriots in the chase by smashing four sixes in his 30-run knock off 14 balls before he became one of Mohammad Hasnain's three victims. Usama Mir also kept the fight going with a couple of sixes. But Neesham, who set the ball rolling with the wicket of opener Kjorn Ottley, delivered the final over and cleaned up both Mir and Cottrell to bundle out SNP for 141 in 19.4 overs.

Brief Scores:

Trinbago Knight Riders – 152/7 in 20 overs (Kieron Pollard 47; Sheldon Cottrell 3/13) defeated St Kitts & Nevis Patriots – 141 in 19.4 overs (Evin Lewis 36; Jimmy Neesham 3/18) by 11 runs.
