After a disappointed 2019 World Cup campaign in England, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) went for a ‘fresh approach’ after which a committee which included former skippers Wasim Akram and Misbah-ul-Haq decided to ax the head coach Mickey Arthur and his coaching staff.

But, on Wednesday, according to a recent report from Daily Jung, an Urdu newspaper, former Pakistani captain Wasim Akram was the driving force behind Mickey Arthur’s ouster as the head coach of the Pakistan cricket team.

PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani was against axing Arthur but then decided not to go against the committee’s decision which shocked Arthur. The 51-year-old South African was not happy with the decision as he was genuinely putting efforts to make Pakistan cricket better.

I am extremely disappointed and hurt. I did my wholehearted effort to lift Pakistan cricket,” he said.

The reports also revealed that Misbah-ul-Haq, Urooj Mumtaz, Mudassir Nazar, and Zakir Khan also played an active role in Arthur’s departure. Akram did make the most “solid” arguments against Arthur.

While some conspiracy theorists believed that Misbah was the most active of the committee members as he had most advantages because with Arthur being gone, he would become the front runner for the now-vacant position. But Jang’s sources suggest otherwise.
