Former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq is considered to be leading the race to become the head coach of the team has submitted his application for the post after quitting the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) executive committee on 27th August.

Mickey Arthur and his assistants were axed by the PCB following a disappointing World Cup 2019 campaign in England with Misbah leading the race for the top role, but there are few issues on the way of him becoming the national head coach.

It is being said that the remuneration asked by Misbah from the PCB can be an obstacle in his way to replace Mickey Arthur as head coach of the national side.

According to a report in Pakistan’s English daily The Express Tribune, Misbah, one of the greatest Test captains, has demanded a salary in line with that of former head coach Mickey Arthur. However, the PCB is not ready to pay such a massive amount to a local coach, while there is also a problem in his way of coaching a team of Pakistan Super League (PSL).

The board wants Misbah to part ways with the PSL role if he takes up the national role, but the former batsman doesn’t want to leave the job, while the PCB chairman Ehsan Mani has made it clear that the dual roles for a coach will no longer be acceptable under the board’s new constitution.

Besides Misbah, former Australian batsman Dean Jones and former West Indies paceman Courtney Walsh are also top applicants for the top role with Pakistan side.

Noteworthy, the PCB is likely to announce their new head coach ahead of the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka, which will get underway in Karachi on September 27.
