Sourav Ganguly is perhaps one of the most celebrated captains India has ever had and one of the best batsmen the world has seen. His artistic off-side play led him to be termed as the god of the off-side. After retiring from the game, Ganguly has kept himself involved in cricket, becoming the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB).

He also became the mentor of the Delhi Capitals franchise in IPL 2019, with some success. This had led to speculations of him becoming coach of the Indian team as well, something he touched upon in an interview with India Today. 

He also stated that it will be great to work with Virat Kohli. As an Indian fan, one would certainly agree that the Kohli-Ganguly duo would work well for the team as both of them are like-minded.

The 47-year-old said, “Two years is some time away. But I have said in the past as well, I am interested in being India coach someday. It will feel great to work with Virat Kohli because he is a match-winner. He is a champion cricketer. If I can contribute and help the team win big tournaments and Test series in England, South Africa and the current Australian side with Steve Smith and David Warner that would be the endeavor. If the team can achieve that, it will be the USP of this side.”

Sourav Ganguly also agreed with Sehwag’s suggestion that Anil Kumble should become the chairman of selectors and believes that Sehwag should join Kumble too.

Ganguly told India Today, “If Anil Kumble becomes a selector, what else could be better than that? He brings honesty, experience and has been such a huge cricketer for India. Even Sehwag would make a good selector. He has courage and vision. He played his cricket in a way which contributed to wins. His analysis and reaction in big matches were second to none. So he will definitely do a good job. Both Anil Kumble and Virender Sehwag can be selectors for India.”

Sehwag had also mentioned that the selectors’ pay should be increased. Ganguly, who was one of Team India’s finest captains, also believes the same stating that it is a crucial position in Indian cricket.

“Definitely, selectors should get good money. Because selectors is one of the most crucial positions in cricket. And the coach works with the team that selector picks. Coach has his inputs but the final decisions are made by the selectors," he added.
