The Afghanistan Cricket Board suspended Mohammad Shahzad’s contract for a year after the wicket-keeper batsman breached the board's code of conduct.

During the World Cup 2019 in England, Shahzad was in the headlines as he was ruled out of the tournament after playing a few matches due to an injury and 18-year-old keeper Ikram Ali Khil was called upon as his replacement.

The swashbuckling right-hand batsman could not handle the sudden omission and ended up venting his frustration saying he was fit to play.

The disappointed 31-year-old then went on to say that he was unfairly sent home and that only skipper Gulbadin Naib the coach, and the manager knew about him being ruled out, rest of his teammates were completely shocked. The opening batsman from Nangarhar went on to accuse at the board, stating that some of the board officials conspired against him.

He was earlier suspended for an indefinite period and Shahzad’s outburst wouldn’t have gone done well with the board, who decided to suspend him for a year.

Shehzad will be missing on a lot of cricket in the coming 12 months as the Afghans are scheduled to play Bangladesh in a one-off Test next month in Chattogram followed by a T20I tri-series, involving the hosts and Zimbabwe and then host West Indies in Dehradun later this year.

While a number of people blamed the 31-year-old for ending his career by his own hands by tearing apart his Afghanistan passport, he opened up on the matter by releasing a video on Twitter. In the clip, he showed both his expired and new Afghanistan passport.
