Sehwag reckons Kohli will break most of Tendulkar's record barring one

Virender Sehwag thinks Virat Kohli is the best batsman of this generation and will definitely go on to break most of legendary Sachin Tendulkar's record barring one.

The Indian captain just recently struck his 43rd ODI ton, just seven away from going past Tendulkar's tally of 49 hundreds in 452 innings.

The Master Blaster had scored 18426 runs in his ODI career at an average of 44.83, while Virat has an astonishing average of 60.31 in 239 ODIs (230 innings).

In Test matches, Virat has 25 tons in 77 games(131 innings), while Tendulkar - still the format's highest run-getter - struck 51 centuries in a record 200 encounters (329 innings) before his retirement in 2013.

"At the moment, Virat (Kohli) is the best batsman. The way he is scoring centuries, the way he is scoring runs, he is the best. I am sure he will break most of Sachin Tendulkar’s records," Sehwag told TOI

"The one record no one can break is his (Sachin) 200 Test matches record. I don’t think anyone can break his record of playing 200 Test matches. I don’t think anybody can play more than 200 Test matches."

Of course, in the present day, Virat's direct comparisons are often drawn with Australia great Steve Smith, specifically in Tests. But there is no doubt in anyone's mind who exactly is the better all-format player, said Sehwag.

"Virat Kohli is a much better player than Steve Smith. If you look at Kohli and Smith (while batting), Kohli looks much more pleasing to the eyes in comparison with Smith. He is the number one batsman in the world," he concluded.
