Bangladesh Cricket Board on Saturday (August 17) announced Russell Domingo as new head coach of the national side on a two-year stint, starting August 21.

Domingo, who has past experience of coaching South Africa at the international level, won the race also featuring Mike Hesson and Mickey Arthur to succeed Steve Rhodes, who parted ways with the set-up after Bangladesh's disappointing eighth-place finish at the World Cup in UK.

"We have decided to pick Russell as he will be available. There were other candidates but we wanted someone who could be available for us and certainly he has got the experience," said BCB president Nazmul Hasan, who appointed Domingo after an interview with him in Dhaka earlier this month, via a media release.

Domingo's first assignment with Bangladesh will be the one-off home Test against Afghanistan in September. His presence only adds to the South African contingent in Bangladesh's backroom staff as BCB recently decided to renew contracts of batting coach Neil McKenzie and bowling coach Charl Langeveldt.
