Rassie van der Dussen awarded with CSA central contract

The right-hand batsman scored 311 runs in 6 matches in the recently concluded World Cup in UK.

The 30-year-old Rassie van der Dussen who had a good World Cup in the UK has been awarded with a Cricket South Africa (CSA) Central contract. The revised list of centrally contracted players for 2019-20 featuring the right hander was released by Cricket South Africa.

The right-hand batsman from Pretoria had a great World Cup with the bat as he managed to score 311 runs in 6 matches at an amazing average of 62.20 and was the second highest run-scorer for the Proteas following skipper Faf du Plessis who scored 387 runs in 6 matches at 64.50.

While talking about van der Dussen, the CSA chief Executive Thabang Moroe said, “Rassie's promotion is thoroughly justified on the back of a brilliant debut season at international level and has also served as an inspiration to all aspiring cricketers at domestic level of what can be achieved by showing top-class form on a consistent basis.

CSA also released the list of eight batsmen and seven spinners who will be part of a spin-bowling camp in Bengaluru between August 17-23 as part of South Africa's preparation for the forthcoming all-format series in the subcontinent.

When asked about the balance of the side, Moroe said, “The batting group is completed by two of our most consistent runs scorers in franchise cricket in Pieter Malan and Edward Moore and the bowling group is headed by the experience of Dane Piedt and includes highly promising talents, among them being Bjorn Fortuin, Tsepo Ndwandwa and Senuran Muthusamy.

While talking about most International cricket being played in sub-continent, CSA chief said, “It is a fact that most international cricket is played on the sub-continent these days and we have to look ahead not only to the tours on the immediate horizon but the next edition of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup in India in 2023.

Batsmen for spin camp: Aiden Markram, Janneman Malan, Zubayr Hamza, Matthew Breetzke, Sinethemba Qeshile, Edward Moore, Temba Bavuma, Pieter Malan.

Bowlers for spin camp: Dane Piedt, Bjorn Fortuin, Tsepo Ndwandwa, Senuran Muthusamy, Thomas Kaber, Dyllan Mathews, George Linde.

Support staff for spin camp: Russell Domingo (South Africa A coach), Ashwell Prince (batting consultant), Paul Adams (spin consultant), Sidwe Hadebe (physio), Vincent Barnes (high performance manager).
