Dale Steyn, the South African speedster called time on his Test career a day before, after playing 93 Tests and picking 439 wickets at an amazing average of 22.95. Steyn took this decision in order to prolong his career in limited-overs cricket after injuries have hampered him in the last 2-3 years.
Steyn separated his shoulder in Australia Test series in 2016 and was out from the game for over a year and then injured his heel on return against India in 2018. He then came back to play some games and went past Shaun Pollock’s record of highest Test wickets for South Africa and was named in Proteas squad for World Cup 2019, but reinjured his shoulder while playing in IPL 2019 and was ruled out of the tournament.
Everyone paid tributes to the great bowler’s career which saw him reach the pinnacle of his career, but the best tribute has come from New Zealand captain Kane Williamson. Williamson had received the most painful blows in his unmentionables, as a quick Steyn delivery thudded into his abdominal guard. As Williamson tried to breathe normally, Steyn famously said that he won’t apologize.
Here is the video of that delivery hurting Williamson and everyone who watches it:
Later it was found that Steyn’s bullet like delivery had cracked the now Kiwi captain’s guard and Williamson got Steyn to sign it for him. He shared it on his Instagram with a message, “The box @dalesteyn cracked back in 2013 - OUCH! Kind of him to sign it after the match though ???? Congratulations on an incredible Test career mate #steyn #alwayswearabox”
