Sri Lanka have trimmed their initial 22-member squad to 17 for the upcoming home three-match One-Day International (ODI) series against Bangladesh starting from 26th July in Colombo.

On Wednesday, 24th July, Niroshan Dickwella, Danushka Gunathilaka, Lakshan Sandakan, Amila Aponso and Lahiru Madushanka have been excluded from the original ODI squad against Bangladesh.

The national selectors have made plenty of changes in their World Cup 2019 squad in England, where they finished sixth place in the tournament, with Milinda Siriwardena, Jeffrey Vandersay, Suranga Lakmal, and Jeevan Mendis have been dropped for the home series.

While former captain Dinesh Chandimal continued to face sideline, the islanders have brought in the spin bowling option in Akila Dananjaya into the side, hoping surfaces in Colombo likely to aid turn.

The ODI series opener on Friday would be the last match for Lasith Malinga of his career with the pacer set to retire followed by the second two days later and the final on July 31 with all three matches of the series will be played at the Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Here is Sri Lanka’s updated squad:

Dimuth Karunaratne, Kusal Janith Perera, Avishka Fernando, Kusal Mendis, Angelo Mathews, Lahiru Thirimanne, Shehan Jayasuriya, Dhananjaya de Silva, Akila Dananjaya, Lasith Malinga (will only play the 1st ODI), Nuwan Pradeep, Lahiru Kumara, Thisara Perera, Isuru Udana, Kasun Rajitha, Dasun Shanaka (will come in for 2nd and 3rd ODI)
