Ben Stokes nominated for 'New Zealander of the Year' award for World Cup performance

The England all-rounder was born in New Zealand and his parents still live in their old house.

Not many days ago, England all-rounder Ben Stokes made a major contribution in England’s World Cup Final win over New Zealand. However, Ben has been nominated for ‘New Zealander of the Year’.

England and New Zealand played out a wonderful World Cup Final. The match will surely go down as one of the best ODIs in the history of the game. The match saw a super over being played as the match ended in a tie, which also resulted in a tie. England had the upper hand because of their higher boundary count and were named ‘Champions’.

The major contributor for England was Ben Stokes who scored 84 not out off 98 balls and was adjudged the Man of the Match. New Zealand skipper, Kane Williamson, who made 548 runs throughout the tournament, showed immense calmness and did a wonderful job to hide his agony after such a defeat. He was adjudged the Man of the Series for his exemplary batting and captaincy.

Ben Stokes and Kane Williamson both have been nominated for the ‘New Zealander of the Year’ award. Stokes who was born in New Zealand had moved to England with his parents for his father’s job. Later on, his parents moved back to their old house and the young lad stayed in England to play cricket.

New Zealander of the Year chief judge Cameron Bennett said, “Stokes might not have been playing for the Black Caps but, having been born in Christchurch where his parents now live and with Maori ancestry, there’s clearly a few Kiwis about who think we can still claim him.

He also explained by Williamson was nominated for the award. He said, “He (Kane) has been the embodiment of the qualities we cherish as New Zealanders _ courage, fairness, humility.
