Discarded England batsman Alex Hales has revealed he tendered an emotional apology to his Nottinghamshire teammates after being sacked for disciplinary reasons. 

The 30-year-old, it was reported, got dropped from the set-up by ECB on failing a second recreational drugs test. He was initially suspended for 21 days by the board before the news was made public, and it was decided he'll be axed from the squad for the whole summer. 

"I just wanted to apologise to the guys for everything that happened. I got the point across that I had not just let myself down; I had let down my family, friends, team-mates. I had to get that off my chest," Hales said in a video released by Nottinghamshire to promote their Twenty20 Blast campaign.

Hales was also given a warning for his involvement in the late-night fight outside a club in Bristol in 2017 that resulted in a substantially long suspension for all-rounder Ben Stokes. 

Though Hales' comeback hasn't been ruled out entirely by skipper Eoin Morgan and head coach Trevor Bayliss, it is understood his return to the national side will take a while to really eventuate.
