Premier India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on Tuesday (July 9) scalped 5/59 to help Nottinghamshire bowl out Somerset for just 169 in the second innings of the County Championship Division One first-class game.
Ashwin's spell was a follow up to another fine performance in the first innings where he picked up 3/93.
Nottinghamshire was able to pull the game back because of Ashwin and set itself a target of 255 at the Cooper Associates County Ground after conceding a lead of 85, having responded to Somerset’s 326 all-out with a modest 241/10 in the first innings.
Ashwin picked up overall match figures of 8/123 in 64.3 overs. He was ably supported at the task by left-arm spinner LA Patterson-White (5/73).
This was Ashwin's second game of his stint with Nottinghamshire. He had figures of 3/162 in the club's innings defeat against defending champions Essex earlier on.
