The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday (July 8) officially announced the appointment of former skipper and batting legend Rahul Dravid as Head of Cricket at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore.

Dravid was originally supposed to take over the NCA role from July 1. However, his longstanding job at India Cements caused a delay.

The supreme-court appointed Committee of Administrators (COA) wanted Dravid to relinquish his post as vice-president of India Cements or be on leave until he completes his tenure, which India Cements duly provided him for the ex-cricketer to avoid a potential conflict of interest.

"Mr Dravid will oversee all cricket related activities at NCA and will be involved in mentoring, coaching, training and motivating players, coaches and support staff at the NCA," BCCI said in a release.

"Dravid will also work closely with the National men’s and women’s Head coaches and coaches for India Developmental teams – including India A, India Under 19, India Under 23 teams, in the identification of key training and development objectives."

It is not yet specified for how long Rahul's stay in the position will last. The man, who played 164 Tests for India, will be responsible for monitoring progress of the developmental teams and provide regular inputs on the same to the senior men’s and women’s head coaches.
