In order to participate in T20 leagues around the world, Yuvraj Singh has formally written to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), seeking permission for the same.

Yuvraj announced his international retirement at a press conference held in Mumbai last week, bringing down the curtain on a glittering career.

“He wrote to the board yesterday. I don’t see an issue in him getting the nod to play in overseas leagues now that he has retired from international cricket and IPL,” a BCCI source told PTI on Tuesday.

It is pertinent to mention here that the BCCI has barred active players from participating in overseas T20 leagues and that is one of the main reasons, Yuvraj considered retirement to make himself available for competitions around the world.

In 2017, BCCI had allowed retired cricketers such as Virender Sehwag and Zaheer Khan to feature in the T10 League held in UAE.

Last month, Irfan Pathan forwarded his name for the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) draft. The BCCI is yet to approve Irfan’s decision as the left-arm pacer remains an active first-class player. The BCCI had also withdrawn his brother Yusuf’s NOC for taking part in a Hong Kong T20 tournament two years ago.

While announcing his retirement, Yuvraj had expressed his desire to play in foreign T20 leagues.

“I want to play T20 cricket. At this age I can manage to play some kind of fun cricket. I want to go and enjoy my life. It’s been too stressful just thinking about my international career, performing and big tournaments like the IPL,” the southpaw had said.
