Yuvraj Singh | AFPOne of the greatest limited overs batsmen of all time and Man of the Tournament in 2011 World Cup, which was won by India, Yuvraj Singh announced his retirement from international cricket with immediate effect. He last played for India on June 30, 2017, against West Indies.

"I can't put it in words, I will try. After 25 years, and in 22 yards and 17 years of international cricket. I have decided to move on. Cricket has given me everything and it was a love hate relationship in retrospect. I can't express in words how that feeling is. I have failed more times than I succeeded, but I gave my gave my blood and sweat when it came to playing for the country,” said Yuvraj during a press conference.

Yuvraj Singh played 40 Tests, 304 ODIs and 58 T20 Internationals for India from 2000 to 2017. He scored 1900, 8701 and 1177 runs respectively in each format and scored 17 international centuries overall. He gave the Indian fans some cherishable moments in cricket, with his six sixes in an over against Stuart Broad in ICC World T20 2007 and then his amazing performance in ICC World Cup 2011, where he scored 362 runs and 15 wickets, winning 4 Man-of-the-Match awards.

Yuvraj Singh was diagnosed with cancer after the World Cup, which he played with the illness. This marked a downfall in his performances for obvious reasons and though he made many comebacks for the team in coming years, couldn’t manage to cement his place for a long time. Injuries and fitness issues hampered his career, and even though he continued playing in the domestic circuit for Punjab and also featured in the Indian Premier League in the last two years, he was a shadow of his former self.

Yuvraj Singh said, “I have failed more times than I succeeded, but I gave my blood and sweat when it came to playing for the country. My life has been a roller coaster ride. Next focus is to help cancer patients at youwecan.
