Ross Taylor the veteran from the New Zealand batting unit is preparing to play his fourth World Cup but has not ruled out featuring in another one four years later after getting inspired by the West Indian batsman, Chris Gayle.

Taylor who is currently 35 may be playing his last World Cup but he says that if the body permits, he will keep playing and appear in another showpiece event as 39-year-old ‘Universe Boss’ who is his inspiration is playing his last World Cup.

While talking to ICC about playing in the 2023 World Cup, Taylor got candid and said, “I'm 35 but you never really know what is to come. Chris Gayle is probably an inspiration - he is 39 in this World Cup and I am 39 at the next, so it is not a simple matter. You never know, this will probably be my last World Cup but if these hamstrings and calves hold together then maybe I can be back in a few years.

After beating favourites India in their first warm-up game, the Blackcaps are set to take on West Indies next on May 28 at Bristol.

When asked about the warm-up games, the right-hand batsman said, “When it comes to a warm-up you just treat it as that and then get out of the game what you want to get out of it. For us, we have not played as a team for two or three months, so it was about going out there and testing our skills out against the best.

The Kiwis were the finalist along with the eventual champions Australia in the previous edition of the ICC mega event. When asked about making it to the finals, the 35-year-old said, “It is going to be a lot tougher, making the final four years ago we played a lot of games at home and we knew our conditions very well. If you get off to a good start and get onto a roll, you can get into those semi-finals and suddenly you are only two wins away from winning it.

New Zealand commence their World Cup 2019 campaign on June 1 in which they take field against Sri Lanka at Cardiff.
