Pakistan are playing a five match ODI series against England. In the 2nd ODI, England posted a mammoth total of 373/3 in their 50 overs with a swashbuckling hundred from Jos Buttler. In Pakistan’s reply, opener Fakhar Zaman also scored a quick-fire century that almost got them within touching distance of the target. England eventually won by 12 runs.
It was the Pakistani southpaw’s fourth ODI century. His terrific innings of 138 included 12 boundaries and 4 sixes. He shared a 92-run partnership with Imam-ul-Haq and then another 135-run stand with Babar Azam.
The 29-year-old had made his name after scoring a century against India in the Champions Trophy 2017 Final. His current form makes sure that Pakistan’s batting line-up will not be taken lightly in the World Cup 2019 starting in 15 days’ time.
The name ‘Fakhar’ doesn’t sound odd in Urdu or Hindi as it means ‘pride’. But for an Englishman like Graeme Swann, it was interesting. After watching his innings in the aforementioned ODI, Swann had a chuckle about his name on Twitter.
The former England spinner tweeted, “I honestly hope that Fakhar goes on to be the greatest player in living memory. His name deserves greatness!”
