Chennai Super Kings continued their dominance in the ongoing Indian Premier League and secured the second spot in the points table after the league stage. The defending champions won 9 out of its 14 league matches and are looking set for a record fourth IPL title.

The credit for CSK’s constant dominance goes to its inspirational skipper MS Dhoni, who might be in the twilight of his career but he is still ranked among the five richest cricketers in the world. According to MSN, Dhoni's net worth is estimated to be around £77.3 million ($103m). The 37-year-old earns a fortune as part of BCCI’s central contract list as well as from deals with the likes of Aircel, Pepsi, Sonata, TVS Motors etc.

Despite all his success, Dhoni is still the same humble man. He credits the legendary Indian players of yesteryear for today's cricketers' rise and glittering career.

“This chain of players put us in the position where we earn a lot of money and have a lot of respect. What we try to do is pass it on to the next generation. I place a lot of emphasis upon the dressing room atmosphere,” Dhoni quoted as saying by Express Sport.

As per Forbes, the sponsorships and endorsements are expected to be around £21m ($28m). The former India skipper also co-owns ISL side Chennaiyin FC, Mahi Racing Team India and Ranchi Rays.

Dhoni acquires around £2.6m ($3.5m) from Chennai Super Kings each year, dropping some of his salary into local food.

Talking about his association with Chennai, Dhoni said: “Firstly, it’s about the people. The city is what it is because of the people. I always felt the people were very special. The people are outstanding. It’s my second home - I’ve played a lot of cricket and had my test debut here.”

Revealing his taste for local delicacies, the CSK skipper said: “Chennai biryani is special in its own way. My friend used to get it for me and it was slightly spicy.

“It’s a place that’s very hot and humid, but still they make very good leather goods over here. The leather jackets that are exported from here are very nice.”
