BCCI Ombudsman fines Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul for "Koffee with Karan" row

Both Hardik and Rahul were provisionally suspended for their misogynistic comments on the popular TV show in January.

Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya and opener KL Rahul have been asked to pay a sum of Rs 1 lakh each, to widows of 10 constables in paramilitary forces who have lost their lives on duty, by BCCI Ombudsman DK Jain, for their misconduct and inappropriate remarks during an episode of the popular TV show "Koffee with Karan".

The two cricketers have also been asked to deposit fines of Rs 10 lakh each in the fund created for the promotion of cricket for the blind.

Further in his report, Jain has mentioned that if both the players fail to do as necessitated within four weeks from the date of the receipt of the order, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) can deduct the said amount from the match fees payable to Rahul and Hardik.

The Ombudsman still recognised that they've missed out on earnings of about Rs 30 lakh since being asked to return home midway through the tour of Australia in January when this episode was aired on television. But he noted that there is an ideal way all cricketers are supposed to behave in the public eye and hence, Rahul and Hardik had to be more responsible with regards to their comments.

It is also stated in this report that since both the players apologised and didn't contest the action taken against them, it becomes unnecessary to return a categorical finding as to whether the words spoken during the course of the concerned chat show constitutes as an act of indiscipline or misconduct or violation of any of Rules and Regulations on part of players as contemplated under Rule 41 (1) (c) of the rules.

It is clear now that the matter finishes itself here and Hardik, as well as Rahul, can put their focus solely over the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup for which they've been picked in the 15-member Indian squad.
