BCCI not to take any action on Ambati Rayudu for his sarcastic tweet

Rayudu had made a stinging tweet over his exclusion from World Cup squad.

Ambati Rayudu | GettyAmbati Rayudu’s exclusion from the Team India’s ICC World Cup 2019 squad came as a shock to many, given the time the team management had invested in him in the last year or so and even captain Virat Kohli had shown confidence in Rayudu at the no.4 spot in the Indian batting lineup.

However, loss of form at the most unfortunate times cost Rayudu his spot in the team for the World Cup and at what cost. Rayudu had retired from FC cricket to focus on white-ball form and had made a comeback in the team after a splendid IPL 2018, where he opened the innings and even scored his maiden IPL century.

But after performances against mediocre bowling attacks such as the West Indies and during the Asia Cup, things unraveled on the tours of Australia and New Zealand, where Vijay Shankar emerged as a viable option to Rayudu and in the end, the selectors went for Shankar, given his fielding and bowling comes in addition.

MSK Prasad’s three-dimensional comment for justifying Shankar’s selection had led to Ambati Rayudu making a sarcastic tweet of buying 3D glasses to watch the World Cup, which begins on May 30 in Britain. Rayudu’s tweet has got more than 76,000 likes and 12,000 retweets so far.

The BCCI brass has taken note but since it wasn’t a direct criticism of the selection policy, the parent body wants to let it go. “We have taken note of what Rayudu has tweeted. (But) Let’s accept that emotions are running high at this moment. There is bound to be a disappointment and there needs to be an outlet of expression as long as it’s not out of line,” a senior BCCI official told PTI on Wednesday.

He will need some time to soak in the disappointment and it’s understandable. There is no need for sanctions. Also, he is one of our standbys. If any injury happens there is every chance, he would go,” the official said.
