David Warner says resting MS Dhoni against Australia cost them series

MS Dhoni was rested for the last two ODIs against Australia.

David Warner explained the reason behind India's series defeat against Australia in the recently concluded limited-overs series clash. India was almost playing their full strength side. But they still lost the series by 3-2. What shocking was they were leading the series 2-0.

Warner feels India's veteran cricketer MS Dhoni should have played the last two matches. Dhoni was rested in the final two matches to give Rishabh Pant an opportunity.

As per the Australian cricketer, Dhoni's omission left certain areas void which was capitalized by Australia to come back and win the series.  "We know MS wasn't playing the last couple of games and you know from the Australian point of view, I thought 'that's a big gap, a big hole and we've got a chance'.

"That's the impact one player like him has from an opposition's point of view. These are the headaches a lot of teams will have when they are selecting their 15," Warner told India Today's, Boria Majumdar.

Warner is returning to IPL this year after his fan will be lifted by Cricket Australia at the end of March. He knows how IPL has produced so many talented players for India that it actually became a headache for selectors to pick a 15-man squad.

"I do have to agree with that [IPL has helped India develop a great pool] and the biggest problem is that for the captain and the selection committee, you've got so much talent, how do you fit in all that in the 15-man squad and the XI?

"There are 30 or maybe 40 guys who could be in that 15-man squad, it's a difficult thing, like a lot of other countries too. There is so much talent at the moment, good young cricketers but a World Cup is a World Cup, there's pressure and you need experience.

"You have the chance to put 1-2 young players in there but experienced players help you win World Cups. I think that's where India against the Australian cricket team, they put some young guys in there and Australia played fantastically and even India was phenomenal," Warner said.
