Mohammad Hafeez has faith that he'll be able to recover from the hand injury just in time for this year's ICC Cricket World Cup, beginning May 30.

The Pakistani all-rounder will be meeting surgeon Mike Hayton, who specialises in hand injuries, during his stay in Manchester for which he has already taken the flight.

"I am hopeful once the surgery is done I will have enough time to recover and be available for selection in the World Cup," Hafeez was quoted saying before leaving.

Hafeez suffered a fracture on his right thumb while attempting a catch off his own bowling during Lahore Qalandars' second match of the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) season against Karachi Kings.

Scans later revealed a fracture and need for surgery after which the normal recovery period is six to eight weeks.

This must be the most untimely injury for the 38-year-old, who is striving to earn back national selectors' faith and give his 208 ODIs long career one last hurray with a world title this summer.

"But scans showed a break and doctors in Dubai advised me to go for surgery and I have chosen to go to Manchester to consult Hayton," he added.
