Mitchell Marsh's miserable summer has got worse as the Australian all-rounder was forced to undergo surgery after being struck in the groin at training on Tuesday (19th February).

The 27-year-old has been out of the Australian Test, One-Day and T20 teams due to his struggle on the field and now his injury made things even more terrible for the all-rounder as Marsh has been ruled out of Western Australia’s Sheffield Shield match against New South Wales in Sydney, starting on 24 Feb.

Marsh suffered a groin injury after being hit while batting on Tuesday at a net session and later underwent a “minor surgical procedure” on Wednesday, while his availability is still unclear for the March 3-6 Shield clash with South Australia at the WACA Ground.

WA physiotherapist Nick Jones said on Wednesday, “As a result of the impact, Mitch has undergone a minor surgical procedure and he won't be available for this upcoming Shield fixture.”

Jones signed off by saying, “Mitch's recovery will be monitored closely over the coming week, before a decision can be made around his availability for the Round 8 Shield match.”

Noteworthy, Marsh hasn't played in the First-Class since the Boxing Day Test against India in December and he was looking to regain his form in the Sheffield Shield for Ashes 2019 spot.
