West Indies batsman Chris Gayle was accused of exposing his genitals in front of a journalist during the World Cup 2015 in Sydney. However, he proved the allegation was false and filed a defamation case against Fairfax Media which he won last year. Gayle's teammate Dwayne Smith, who was there in the changing room had also denied the allegation against the southpaw.

Gayle won an AUD 300,000 (US$221,000) payout from an Australian media group. But the cricketer is demanding more from the media group which published wrong information.

Fairfax, who has since launched an appeal, has since sought to delay the payment. In filing a counter-appeal late last month, however, Gayle’s legal team has argued that the damages awarded were "manifestly inadequate" and Justice McCallum "erred in failing to award aggravated damages".

The jury had found the reports published against Gayle were for an improper purpose. It was to damage the image of the West Indies cricketer.

Gayle had got himself in trouble during Australia's Big Bash League when his comment had left an anchor uncomfortable. The 39-year-old had said, "don't blush baby" to the anchor on her reaction after asking her out. The left-handed batsman had played 41 off 15 balls in that match.
