Jasprit Bumrah proved everyone just how good he is even in Test match cricket last year. But it is in the white-ball arena that his exploits were first rewarded with an Indian cap.

The right-arm pacer kickstarted his international career in 2016 Sydney ODI after impressing the selectors with stellar performances for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

And Bumrah credits playing a lot of tennis ball cricket in his growing up days for the astonishing skillset he has developed. An integral part of which, is pinpoint accuracy with regards to the yorker.

"As a kid, I played a lot of tennis ball cricket and with the tennis ball, you can bowl only one kind of delivery," he told Times of India, "There’s the length in question, no bouncers. There’s only one ball that you have to practice."

"At that time, I played for fun. But later, when you start playing serious cricket, you realize the importance of that delivery."

While he got the knowledge of it, what gave Bumrah immense confidence in delivering his yorker under pressure was the practice that did in the nets. He is now an all-format bowler and hence, it is important to unlearn the old and understand new things as well.

"But not that because it naturally comes to me, I don’t have to keep practicing it. It still takes the same amount of hard work to get it right in a match situation."

"I do spend enough hours now trying to get all the little things correct. The line, the length, the bounce. The game now actively involves playing three formats that are very different from each other. So, there’s constant work to be done to stay in tune with each of them," Bumrah concluded.

The 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup in England and Wales kickstart on May 30. And it goes without saying that the leader of India's fast bowling attack will have a major influence on the fortunes of Virat Kohli's team in that tournament.
