Nathan Lyon has had a long home season across all formats for Australia. But premier off-spinner will still be going through a stint in the Big Bash League to push his claims ahead of this year's ICC Cricket World Cup in England and Wales.

Lyon, who is part of the national 15-man squad for the upcoming limited overs tour of India, is going to feature in Sydney Sixers' important clash versus Melbourne Stars on Sunday, February 10.

"Our next red ball game is the next (Ashes) Test so it's an exciting opportunity," he was quoted saying by cricket.com.au, "My World Cup campaign, my selection starts here on Sunday, I just need to keep putting in good performances and continue playing my role whatever side I'm in."

Sixers are striving for a win as it can ensure them a place in this year's semi-final round and Lyon is desperate to help them reach there.

He is, in fact, eager to renew that highly successful bowling partnership with left-arm spinner Steve O'Keefe, who is competition's third-leading wicket-taker this season.

"I'll be fine, I'll be ready to go. Hopefully three games for the Sixers. You want to win every competition you play in. No one likes losing," Lyon said.

"There's a massive carrot at the end of this week. The guys have been going fantastic and if we win down in Melbourne we lock in a home semi-final."
