Former Australia batsman Dean Jones has blasted the national selectors, saying that they are to blame for the disarray in Australian cricket. Jones’ comment came in the wake of Australia’s dismal show in international cricket last year.

“I am sorry, but I am over these national selectors. I know the depth of talent within Australian cricket circles is not that great, but for me, the biggest problem in Australian cricket is our selectors,” Jones quoted in an article for Sydney Morning Herald.

In 2018, Australia suffered a Test series defeat to India for the very first time in their cricket history. Moreover, they lost away Test series to South Africa and Pakistan. In white-ball cricket, Australia’s performance was no different – losing 11 out of their 13 ODIs and 8 out of their 19 T20Is throughout the year.

Jones also expressed his astonishment over the selection of Marnus Labuschagne and Jhye Richardson for the India series even though there were several other cricketers who have been performing really in the domestic circuit.

“The mixed messages the national selectors panel are sending out has left players, media and fans scratching their heads. Well, talk me through how Marnus Labuschagne and Jhye Richardson got selected before others?” he added.

In a bid to improve things, Jones called out for massive changes in the cricketing setup. He suggested the newly appointed Cricket Australia CEO Kevin Roberts to sack the current national selection committee.
